Superintendents: Talking and Reflecting Together

What is start?
Public education is undergoing a changing of the guard. Many venerable school leaders are opting for retirement and, in their place, new faces are emerging. Being a first or second year superintendent represents a tremendous learning curve.

start's objective is to provide this next generation of leaders with the knowledge needed to face a myriad of challenges. start explores these challenges and issues are explored through a series of small group seminars, led by experienced superintendents. start also recognizes your time management needs and limits our seminars to three hours (including lunch) over eight months. After you have one or two years experience, startPLUS allows you to continue to build on the relationships from start. We have tailored our start program to match up with our next program called startPLUS. If you are looking for a place to learn, reflect and share your concerns, questions and issues, then start is the place for you.

How does it work?
We accept up to 15 first and second year superintendents for each seminar and plan on conducting several seminars throughout the year. Your commitment is to attend each meeting (barring any emergencies!) Meetings will be held in restaurants, a host school, or in one of our offices. We will try to make the location convenient for everyone. Our goal is to make it flexible for your schedule and your needs.

Is there A Fee to Participate?
Only a registration fee. The program is underwritten by Granger Construction as their contribution to the leadership development of the superintendents of our state. The registration fee of $50.00 is payable by the first meeting. Your only other cost would be to pay for your lunch. We plan on having a drawing in January for a scholarship to one of the schools represented in the start Program Seminar. This scholarship will be funded from the registration fees.
